After a wet spring, it was a dry, dry summer here in New Hampshire, and our fall colors have been muted. Thankfully we’ve had some rain in October, and Beede Falls is running again, though only a trickle. (Click here for a post all about Beede Falls, including a link to a video on my YouTube channel — blast from the past!)

The Sandwich Fair was a great success (as always), and we enjoyed riding our bikes down to see the parade. It ends with animals — 4-H kids with their sheep, goats, and cows ( hmmm… wonder why they don’t parade with their pigs?!) — and at the end, teams of oxen pass by starting with the youngsters and progressing to the big boys. So country! There are also tractors in the parade. Todd should have entered with our Halloween decorations. (That’s him heading down to the bottom of our driveway where he arranges our friendly skeletons in a tree.)

Around the farm the barn hayloft is replenished, the sheep have regrown their wooly coats, firewood is neatly stacked, and the pigs are getting mighty plump. (That’s Laverne in all her porcine glory!) One of the hens has already put on her mukluks. (Actually, she’s a feather-footed breed, so she’s always wearing her fun boots. I tried to get a photo of her, but she’s expert at evading the paparazzi.)

And all creatures great and small are enjoying the fall sunshine, soaking in the warmth as they prepare for winter.

I almost missed this – was in Italy – but caught up today! LOVE the skeletons in the tractor AND in the tree – how does Todd get them up there??? I also went back to your old Beede’s Falls post- remembering when we went up there the last time I was there in the winter . . .which was also the last time YOU were there in the winter!!!
