In Sandwich, New Hampshire, the name “Booty” elicits smiles not because our locals have the worst of junior-high mentalities, but because the Booty family (and Booty Family Farm) are respected and loved. When I was growing up, “booty” meant only pirate treasure or, possibly, a wee knitted sock worn by a baby. Then, when I was in college in the 1970’s, KC and the Sunshine Band released that ignominious single, “Shake Your Booty,” which changed everything. ARG!!!! Really, now, let’s get over this immature fascination with everything related to the rear end. Thank goodness for those football brothers, Josh Booty (LSU) and John David Booty (USC). Both went on to NFL careers, and Josh even played ML Baseball for a bit. They wear the name proudly, as do I: Jane Booty Horn 🙂 And a shout out, as well, to Pirate’s Booty popcorn. Yummy!
