One of the reasons we elected to bring our Casita back to Sandwich from Arizona last spring was our annual fall camping trip in Maine. Sure we could stay at an Airbnb, but no way β itβs just not as much fun. Also, we camped in our sweet little trailer traveling cross country, and if we left it in Phoenix in the summer β you know where this is going β it would probably melt! (Missed the first Arizona post? Click here to read all about it.)
So in late September we checked into our favorite seaside campground, Lobster Buoy in South Thomaston, Maine, which is the type of place that requires a phone call to make a reservation and payment is taken by check or cash only. Fine by us. We brought our kayaks and tucked in happily alongside Penobscot Bay.
We enjoyed dog walks in the lovely Clark Island Preserve, kayaked in a sheltered cove (it was windy!), climbed Ragged Mountain in Rockport, enjoying a picnic lunch on top, and relished nap time in the Casita with views of the bay right out our windows. (Clearly, Rosie was not impressed by the view. She was all about the sunshine.)
Our favorite supper spot in South Thomaston is a little lobster shack called McLoons. Not only is the lobster fresh off of boats that dock at the adjacent pier, but the sunsets there are spectacular. We had to bundle up against the autumn chill, but we had the cozy Casita to go home to. What an enchanted life we live!
Looks like such a fun trip! Wow that last photo of the sunset is really spectacular! Did you take that with your phone?? What kind of phone do you have again?
Glad you both and Rosie enjoyed your annual Maine getaway. Go Casita life!
Todd took that photo with his iPhone 15. Fancy!
